MAFF 2021 – Race Update #1

Thank you for registering for the 2021 Milwaukee Area Fall Frenzy Adventure Race! We’re excited to be back after last year’s hiatus, and we have a great race planned for both the 3- and 8-hour participants.

Please read the details below carefully and look through all the materials on https://www.maffadventurerace.com/

This includes race information, racer requirements, gear lists, and more.

  1. Purchase an annual ($35) or single day ($8) USARA membership no later than November 3, 2021 at this link: https://runsignup.com/usara.
    1. If you already have an annual license, please verify it has not expired. You can renew it at the link above.
  2. Print, complete and sign the USARA event waiver here and bring it to race check in.
    1. Every racer must have a USARA license and signed waiver in order to participate. These will not be available on race day.
    2. We will confirm each registered racer has a license in the system. If you do not have a license at that time, you will not be able to race. If you do not bring your completed waiver to check in, you will not be able to race.

Registered Teams:

Please check out the registered teams at the bottom of the following page: http://www.mbmsporting.com/milwaukee-area-fall-frenzy-2021/

We will be updating this with racer names shortly, but please ensure you are in the correct race length and category.

Gear List:

Review the gear list and ensure that your team has all required gear. There may be gear checks throughout the race. If you plan on having us transport any paddle gear (see paddle section), please ensure your gear is labeled with your team name!

Gear List

Trail Passes:

We will be using Wisconsin DNR trails (somewhere on the course) for both 3- and 8-hour races. You can purchase an annual pass from the DNR or at Race HQ (we’ll make sure the DNR has extra passes available).

Race Headquarters

Race Headquarters (HQ) is at Lapham Peak State Park in Delafield, Wisconsin, for both race lengths. 8 hour racers will have a bike drop with more information coming in future race updates. 3 hour racers will NOT have a separate bike drop location this year.

Parking is available at Trecker Lodge with overflow in multiple lots in the park.

Pre-Race Meeting

We will have a pre-race meeting for both race lengths on race day. We will also have a virtual pre-race meeting on Thursday or Friday before the race. More details to come in future race updates. If you have specific questions, we’ll make sure to address them for you.

If this is your first race, PLEASE read and re-read all materials and join our pre-race meetings to ensure you are 100% prepared for when you show up on race day. We won’t be sharing maps ahead of time, but we will discuss the general approach of the course.

Race Course

  • 8 hour race:
    • Road bike: 22-26 miles
    • Mountain bike: 5-10 miles
    • Trek (Land navigation): 5-12 miles
    • Paddle: 3-6 miles
  • 3 hour race:
    • Road bike: 10-15 miles
    • Mountain bike: 1-3 miles
    • Trek: 3-6 miles
    • Paddle: 3-6 miles

These distances are estimates ONLY. The entire course is scalable for teams to focus on their strengths. These estimates may change with last minute course changes (and course impacts due to weather).

Post Race Part

It’s still planned! No guarantees at this point, but we are hopeful to have awards, food, and more. This is a great time to meet fellow racers – and for any new racers to see the great camaraderie in the sport.

Paddle Gear

We will transport small amounts of paddle gear to the paddle transition for both race lengths. Please limit your gear to a small bin with paddles and personal PFDs and ensure everything is appropriately labeled with your team name.

We are not responsible for missing/lost/stolen gear, so labeling your gear is CRITICAL!

Race Support

MAFF is an unsupported race. We will have some water available, but this will be limited, and water will be turned off at facilities at our TAs (and potentially at HQ). There will not be food available on the course, so plan accordingly.

Wisconsin Adventure Racing Series

MAFF is the final race of 2021 in the Wisconsin Adventure Racing Series. Please check out the 2021-2022 calendar and look at the great races the series has planned for next year. We continue to grow!

MAFF is also a sanctioned USARA adventure race. Check out the USARA calendar for more information!

We are excited to have everyone back and to see all the new faces this year! If you have any questions now, let us know. More race updates will be coming as we get closer to race day.
